The documentary touched my heart and I know people that are going through the same situation. This is truly sad, the families missing their kids or parents and they go without seeing them for over a decade. The undocumented immigrants that come into this country looking for a better opportunity at life, but they aren’t able to share the experience of America; they gain better job opportunities and a better life for their family, but they lose something in return. I couldn’t imagine going thirteen years without seeing my parents or my brother’s because they are a big part of my life. This is what undocumented immigrants have to deal with and to make matters worse, they are treated like unwanted animals in our country. If, only people would sit down and understand their situation or even watch the documentary’s such as this one, it can change the perspective of many people. If, you’re a minority, you know the struggle to find a well-paying job, owning property or getting an education. The truth is minorities have to work twice as hard or sometimes when three times as hard just to get by in this country. We are people with dreams and aspirations in one day achieving a better life for future generations to come. Women have it the worst because in this country women are considered to be inferior to men; a woman can work in the same position as a man, but still get paid less than the man. If you think that’s bad, minority women have even less privileges than white women, so what is left for minority to do when it comes to employment. Most of these women join a cleaning service, they work long hours and the pay is not any good. These women are taken advantage of and there is no one to speak up for them. At least, White women are able to find cleaner and less physical jobs such as desk work or assistant, it is a better job than scrubbing toilets daily.

In the article, “What Does LatinX Mean?” the author talks about intersectionality which is the overlapping of social categories such as race, class, gender that applies to a certain individual or group. According, to the term the more likely you are subjected to discrimination or are at a disadvantage in society. For example, if a male is Hispanic or African American, that individual will be discriminated against. Now, what if that individual is not heterosexual and is gay, this is another disadvantage in the workplace or in society. The greater the overlap an individual has the negative the outcomes when he/she tries to integrate into society.

Latina/o life is not considered valuable in this society. Yes, we are an important part of the community and economy, but we are mostly thought of as a human wallet because we contribute to a large amount of spending in the economy. Latinas/os don’t have the same opportunities as their white counterpart in this country, for example Miguel came to this country when he was eleven, he learned the language and became a brilliant student and followed all the rules, he was the envy of the school. The problem with Miguel was, he went to school that was overcrowded; Miguel’s neighborhood wasn’t the best either, there are many factors that can lead a person down the wrong path such as drugs, teen pregnancy, and juvenile violence. To make matters worse, Miguel worked thirty hours a week to help his mother and his siblings.
